They worked closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), County Council and neighbours to make sure the works were carried out safely and their approach was well informed. The HSE inspected the site across the course of the project and praised Erith for their safety procedures and site setup. The demolition works also involved the removal of substantial asbestos which was removed safely and under strict guidelines. In addition to clearing the site, Erith carried out substantial reconfiguration works to the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory to enable a rational and simple interface with the new development. The reconfiguration works also required Erith to install a temporary plantroom and flue on site which will remain in place until the new Life and Mind Building is complete. The team is pleased to have delivered these works on programme and without incident or injury. Construction of the new Life and Mind Building is expected to start in June 2021 following approval of the planning application.
