Current Progress

Work to build the Life and Mind Building at the gateway to Oxford's Science Area got underway in November 2021, following planning consent from Oxford City Council in January 2021 and the signing of an agreement between Wates Construction and Legal and General, who are delivering the landmark project in partnership with the University. Heralded by CNN as one of the 11 architectural projects of 2025 most likely to shape the world, this development replaces the Tinbergen Building which closed in 2017 and was demolished following comprehensive asbestos removal.

A 'topping out' ceremony to mark the half-way point for construction of The Life and Mind Building was held in February 2023. The building is on track to fully open to staff and students by the end of 2025, housing the University's Department of Biology and Department of Experimental Psychology and offering a range of new spaces for the public to enjoy.
