Removal of asbestos and demolition of the existing Tinbergen building was completed in January 2021, and the enabling works for the adjacent chemistry teaching laboratories are now complete. Full planning consent was given by Oxford City Council in January 2021 and since then the Life and Mind Building Project has progressed through RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design). In November 2021 the main contract was signed between Wates Construction and Legal and General who are delivering the project in partnership with the university. A ground breaking ceremony was held in November 2021 shortly after the main works had commenced.
